Darlington Wonders Project
During lockdown I was invited by Creative Darlington to take part in the Darlington Wonders project to celebrate the great things about where I live.
My submission was based around the Denes, an urban park which stretches right through the centre of the town. A mixture of woodland, park and trickling water, it follows the course of Cocker Beck, past terraced houses, play areas and public tennis courts.
I chose this as my wonder because it’s an amazing shared green space in the middle of a built up area without many private gardens. Walking there can be a transportative experience, a peaceful place, full of trees and birdsong away from the noise of cars and daily life. It’s an escape full of wildlife and a daily opportunity to pay attention to the changing seasons. A little piece of green magic in the heart of the town.

The final Darlington Wonders project exhibition including submissions from Darlington residents was unable to take place due to further lockdown restrictions. Some work, including the textile panel, was displayed in the Cornerstones Art Centre windows in the town centre.
